Mgr. Jan Netolič ka

Jan Netolicka has been the headmaster of Wichterlovo Secondary Grammar School in Ostrava, Czech Republic since 2014, leading one of the top quality and prestigious secondary schools in the Czech Republic. The former deputy headmaster of the same school and previously the deputy headmaster of the State Language School in Ostrava, graduated at the University of Ostrava in Czech and English philology in the year 2000. He is known as an enthusiastic supporter of STEM (science, technology, mathematics, and engineering) education in the region, especially implementing robotics in secondary schools curriculum.

He is a member of the Quality Council of the Czech Republic – an advisory body of the Czech government, the Pedagogical Board of the Technical University of Ostrava, the Association of Secondary School Headmasters, and other professional bodies. He has been frequently nominated as a member of application review committees validating university curriculums. Recently, he has been awarded the title of The Most Inspiring Pedagogical Personality of Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic.

Jan Netolička is a co-author of didactical publications on teacher training, and has written several articles on using IT in language teaching. In his pedagogical work, he focuses on working with talented students as well as implementing CLIL, IT, PBL, and other modern streams in teaching. His experience includes creating model workflows and methodologies for Apple Inc. or evaluating electronic teaching materials for Oxford University Press. Cooperating with University of Ostrava, he is highly involved in the process of training future teachers. He participated in the process of creating the new Czech Language Schools Curriculum.

Besides pedagogy, he is also an author of more than 40 translations of modern fiction, including novels of Michael Connelly or J. D. Barker.
