Khwarizmi Science Society

Introduction

The Khwarizmi Science Society (KSS) is the oldest and most active grassroots-level science popularization movement in Pakistan. We are a non-profit endeavor to foster an enriching science culture in the educational institutions and general public of the country. From hosting illuminating seminars and workshops, to intellectually empowering the masses across the country, we work to unravel and celebrate the potential and talent housed in Pakistan in the fields of science, technology, and innovation.

KSS was founded in 1995 by Dr Saadat Anwar Siddiqi and is named after the renowned Persian polymath Muhammad ibn Musa Al-Khwarizmi, a multifaceted scientist from the Islamic Golden Age. Our most prominent science-thematic activities include the Falkiyati Melas (Astronomy Festivals) in 2009, a country-wide National Science Movement in 2016, and the public Lahore Science Melas held annually from 2017 onwards. The latest iteration was the Lahore Science Mela 2022. Intertwined within our society is a multi-disciplinary history of commemorating our community’s accomplishments, spanning the fields of the natural and physical sciences. To date, we have curated

hundreds of activities including science roadshows, seminars, workshops, courses, and mentorship schemes to help bring our communities closer to unveiling the future of science.

We encourage all science enthusiasts to take the plunge and join us on our mission to reform science education in Pakistan. Visit us at: https://khwarizmi.org/
