2019 Annual Meeting of the Belt and Road International Science Education Consortium (BRISEC) Held in Nanning

On September 25th, the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Belt and Road International Science Education Consortium was held in Nanning City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The Annual Meeting was chaired by Wu Yueliang, who is a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Vice President of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chairman of the Belt and Road International Science Education Consortium, and was attended by the representatives of 17 member organizations and observer organizations, including Children & Youth Science Center of CAST, China Association of Children's Science Instructors, ECO Science Foundation, Network of African Science Academies (NASAC), National Organization for Development of Gifted Talents and Young Scholars of Iran, UNICEF, etc. 


Participants reviewed the 2019 Annual Report of the Coordinating Committee, and discussed and approved the applications of the China Science and Technology Museum, The Cygnus Scientific Society-Centre for UNESCO and Science Centre Singapore to join the Coordination Committee. Participants also discussed the 2020 Work Proposal of three working panels on resource development, teacher training and teenager activities, and held hot discussions on the construction of virtual science center, online and offline teacher training and the international S&T exchange activities for adolescents. 


To conclude, Wu Yueliang said that the work done by the Coordinating Committee in the past year was pragmatic, solid and fruitful. Under the joint efforts of all member organizations, the Coordinating Committee has promoted the classroom practices of the One Belt One Road Fusion of Civilization Curriculum. The scale of the Belt and Road Teenager Maker Camp & Teacher Workshop are expanding continuously, and the contents are getting more and more abundant. With the inclusion of new member organizations, the Coordinating Committee will make greater efforts to carry out pragmatic cooperation in the field of science education in diverse forms and rich contents, thereby contributing to the development of science education and cultural exchanges and cooperation along the "Belt and Road" and promoting the building of a community of shared future for mankind. 


The Belt and Road International Science Education Consortium was founded by Children & Youth Science Center of CAST in 2018 as a pragmatic move to echo the initiative of the First World Conference on Science Literacy and to promote the establishment of a long-acting working mechanism contributing to the science education along the "Belt and Road". Presently, 21 member organizations from 16 countries and 3 international organizations are playing a stronger role in promoting the sharing of science education resources, information exchange and talent exchange among countries along the "Belt and Road".
