Lahore Science Mela (Festival) 2022

The Lahore Science Mela (Festival) is organized by the Khwarizmi Science Society every year with its most recent fourth edition took place on 29th and 30th October 2022 at Divisional Public School (DPS), Model Town, Lahore, Pakistan. 

This citizen science festival turned out to be a tremendous success. LSM’22 welcomed more than 200 performers showcasing over 3000 distinct experiments, demonstrations, performances, specimens, and crafts from diverse fields, and a footfall exceeding 50,000 visitors on both days of the festival. The mela attracted people from all walks of life, from Lahore and beyond. The testimonials we have received and the widespread coverage of this event, reinforce our belief that the scope for scientific reawakening and technological rejuvenation in Pakistani society is huge and the KSS’s contributions, spread over more than 25 years, can indeed make a long lasting impact. The festival hosted two CERN LHC Interactive Tunnels and several demonstrations by the pioneering BioRobotics Institute of Italy. We hosted Joao Pequenão of CERN and Dr. Nidhal Guessoum of the American University of Sharjah in Lahore for the festival. We were also able to build a public planetarium and set up a large exploratorium at the event that was the first of its kind and housed numerous live experiments, indigenous inventions, puzzles, and demonstrations for all visitors.
