The 2023 Belt and Road University Alliance Forum co-sponsored by Gansu Provincial Education Department and Lanzhou University was held in Lanzhou, China, from April 26 to 27. Li Gang, Vice governor of Gansu Province, Yan Chunhua, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Lanzhou University, attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the forum. Li Xiaobing, deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing Normal University attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech. Nearly 100 experts and scholars from 20 overseas universities and international organizations along the Belt and Road participated in the forum, exchanging views and sharing ideas on “High-level international cooperation and Sustainable Development of Universities”, “Global Climate Change and Environment Protection” and other themes.

Li Xiaobing's speech focused on the theme of “Belt and Road construction and the development of higher education internationalization in the new era”.

During the forum, the Belt and Road University Alliance also established the Ecological Sub-alliance. Professor Lou Anru from Beijing Normal University was invited to serve as the deputy director of the Sub-alliance, while Professor Wang Tianming served as the director of the Sub-alliance.

Established in October 2015, the Belt and Road University Alliance, with its secretariat located in Lanzhou University, aims to promote comprehensive exchanges and cooperation among universities of countries and regions along the Belt and Road in educational, scientific, cultural and other fields, it serves the economic and social development of countries and regions along the Belt and Road. The alliance has 5 regional and disciplinary branches, as well as 184 domestic and foreign universities, covering 27 countries and regions.
